Half of hydrogen produced in chemical industry is used for ammonia production. Ammonia containing 17.5 wt% hydrogen is an ideal carbon-free fuel for fuel cells. Compared to hydrogen, ammonia has many advantages. In this mini-review, the suitability of ammonia as fuel for fuel cells, the development of different types of fuel cells using ammonia as the fuel and the potential applications of ammonia fuel cells are briefly reviewed.

Morphology of Ruthenium Particles for Methanation under Reactive Conditions
The potential of hydrogen as a future energy carrier is only fully unleashed if fuel processors generating hydrogen of a suitable purity can be engineered. Selective methanation of CO can be used as a first step for cleaning up feed gas for e.g. proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells [1] where CO poisons the platinum electrodes and for removing oxygen containing compounds in hydrogen feeds u...

Micro-fabricated fuel cell systems are a potential consumer product with the promise to outperform batteries for man-portable power generation in terms of the achievable energy density. A great variety of potential devices are being considered in various research institutions and thus there is a need for a systematic product design methodology, including comparison of alternatives and examinati...
متن کاملFuels With a High Enthalpy of Evaporation in Si Engine
The increasing use of fuels derived from oil, deepens concern about the fact that non-fossil fuels have to be considered as the fuels of the future. Among the alternatives, hydrogen produced from the abundant sources of water, seems to be one of the best, but it suffers drawbacks with regard to combustion, storage and transportation. The other alternatives are ammonia, produced from unlimited s...

The aim of this analysis is to assess the issues of cost, safety, performance, and environmental impact associated with the production of hydrogen by so called "Area II" technologies, not presently funded by the U.S. DOE Hydrogen Program. The hydrogen (H2) rich feedstocks considered are: water, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) rich sub-quality natural gas (SQNG), and ammonia (NH3). Three technology areas...
متن کاملInfluence of substrate concentration and feed frequency on ammonia inhibition in microbial fuel cells
Excessive amounts of ammonia are known to inhibit exoelectrogenic activities in microbial fuel cells (MFCs). However, the threshold ammonia concentration that triggers toxic effects is not consistent among literature papers, indicating that ammonia inhibition can be affected by other operational factors. Here, we examined the effect of substrate concentration and feed frequency on the capacity ...
